THY NAME IS WOMAN REMIX

To begin, I didn't know what to title to give my #remix project until I started to see it all come together. In my previous blog, I mentioned that I wanted to do a food remix but changed my mind. I knew I wanted my remix to involve something about women or girls and power. So I ended up creating a remix about that topic and naming it "Thy Name is Woman." I know this seems vague or pretty original, but it's a remix. So why not! I did want to do a remix project on the topic of food because I have a blog I use for my #Digital Media Writing college course and my main focus is on food. However, I also wanted to branch out and share something else that I am passionate of. As you can see, I am all about supporting girls and fighting for what we want or believe. Now I am NOT an extreme feminist, but I do think women and girls should have equal rights as men do and so on.

The remix project contains two types of remix, both #selective and #reflective. This remix contains four different #historical periods and cultures. They are women from the 1900's, slavery time, modern time (now), and Shakespeare. The first three periods I shared are images I found on Google and "mashed" them together by using #Adobe Photoshop. (One of my favorite software!) I photo shop each image, I added and substracted some material I wanted or didn't want. Then, I decided to use some of Shakespeare most famous quotes and added and altered it to all of the images I recreated to tell a story. I did lightly change the wording of some quotes to make more sense for the image. Each model or image has a story, and the quotes are supposed to help convey a particular meaning for the audience's understanding. I purposely took the time to pick certain images I wanted to remix together for a certain feeling. Each image exposes the truth, the pass, and the present of women then and now, mainly white and African American women. I only chose those two type of diverse #women because I took an #American Literary 1 class and currently taking American Literary 2 college course and I learned and still learning a lot about white and black women. Those two classes from the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown gain my knowledge on how women of both races were treated and how the generation of women improved or became worse. 

Here's a Glimpse of My Remix

My purpose of this remix project is to show people how harsh it was for women of white and black were treated and how they are treated now. Also, to show how women protested and fought and how they still do that now. It's amazing how much more #freedom women and girls have now, but it's sad to see even inappropriate things happen to women and that there are still rights that we don't have. I wanted to share a #message through remix images of those historical periods. I wanted the remix to be meaningful and heartfelt, rather than funny or just another pointless remix. I indeed spent my time picking out the images I wanted and pairing it up with a particular Shakespeare quote. Overall, I decided to create a website using Wix.com to make my remix come together. It kind of looks like a bunch of memes, but instead they are meaningful images. Look at each image carefully and try to examine everything you see and read the text on it. Think about what each image means to you. In two of the images, I did use one Shakespeare quote twice, "Nothing will come of nothing" because both of those images portray two different meanings. I do find it to be significant.

I hope you enjoyed my remix project and I hope that you learn something from it or see how the historical periods of women and slavery changed and how some of the same situations still exist. I have to say, when I first showed my remix to my friends, they all found it strange but they saw a message or meaning in each one. If you're a girl, remember to stand tall, wear your halo, and fight like a girl. If you're a guy, well, respect women who respect you and love them with all your heart and make them feel special.
