Hey, Remix that Cookie Batter!

Hello everyone! It's been quite busy as midterms roll around and I just don't have the time to mash up some sweet potato and remix in some melted butter and marshmallow to the batter. I actually want to talk to you guys about a general topic that is called #remixing or a #mashup or #sampling. According to your best friend #Wiki, it says that " A remix is a piece of media which has been altered from its original state by adding, removing, and/or changing pieces of the item. A song, piece of artwork, books, video, or photograph can all be remixes. The only characteristic of a remix is that it appropriates and changes other materials to create something new. " People usually have a purpose for taking somebody's else work and creating it to be a whole new piece. However, you can't sell it or make a profit of it. That's technically STEALING! Always give credit to the source that you are using and taking from.

Now my professor wants my colleagues and I to think about how remixes and mashups could be used for our blog's topic. For example, my entire blog is based on food or cooking or baking. I need to think about the conventions around originality in that field and what happens and what entities are violated! I kind of find this challenging to think about because I always think about music and #art being combined.
Then, I realized easily that food can really be a remix too! It's strange to say that because I don't think any of us really think of it in that way, but we are "mashing" together different food and ingredients! Like one day, a guy just thought to add chocolate pieces to a plain cookie dough batter, and viola! You got yourself a new type of cookie or dessert. Bakers and cooks and average people can "remix" food everyday to #create a new dish.

Not only could we do a "remix" with actual food but we could take cooking or baking videos and make a remix combining them. In my Digital #Media Writing class, I am already coming up with ideas for our Remix Assignment/Project. My one idea is taking different clips of people making different recipes on cookie and then finding a poem about food or cookies and maybe try having Rachel Ray's voice read the poem but still whipping up a dish and including other famous cooks and YouTubers who cook and bake. Sounds kind of silly, but there is a purpose to why I am doing this, which I will explain in my next blog. But I think it's interesting to take someone's else poem and have these famous cooks read a particular poem. Who knows, maybe I will think of something different. I am still brainstorming!
Anyways! I want to share two different examples of a remix that deals with the topic on food. The first remix is a song and a parody. I think I remember my professor saying she doesn't want my colleagues and I to really create a parody...she just wants us to mash together different work and keep the words, songs, lyrics, or whatever else the same. I just thought I would share this video! I think this young girl did nice job putting this together.
Then, the next example I found is also a remix and a parody. My third example will be a remix but not a parody.
Here's the third example!
I hope that you enjoyed all of these videos or got a kick out of them. I found them all to be strangely weird but kind of cool! Overall, the idea of remixing and mashing things together to make a new piece is pretty awesome! As technology advances, we have more tools and multimedia to create some interesting pieces. It can be romantic, a comedy, simple, crazy, or whatever you want it to be! I am excited to create something different for my Remix Assignment. I will be coming across some challenges since I am still learning and gaining multimedia skills. Let the challenge and fun begin!
